Professor Conall O'Seaghdha

Biography
Prof. Conall O’Seaghdha is a Consultant Nephrologist and Transplant Physician and former Clinical Director of the Transplant, Urology and Nephrology Directorate, Beaumont Hospital, Dublin. He received his medical degree at University College Dublin and spent 5 years at Harvard Medical School completing subspecialty training in Nephrology and Transplantation. He went on to join the faculty of Massachusetts General Hospital as Staff Transplant Nephrologist and Instructor in Medicine at Harvard Medical School, before returning to Ireland to take up his current post in 2013. He is an Associate Professor at the Royal College of Surgeons Dublin and an Honorary Senior Lecturer at Trinity College Dublin, as well as a former National Specialty Director for Nephrology Higher Training in the Royal College of Physicians of Ireland. Prof. O’Seaghdha is a trained epidemiologist and clinical researcher. He completed his training in Biostatistics and Epidemiology at the Harvard School of Public Health and worked as a post-doctoral Clinical Research Fellow with the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute's Framingham Heart Study. His research interests are the prevention of chronic kidney disease, the genetics of kidney traits, and use of artificial intelligence to optimise care for patients on haemodialysis. He has published extensively in these areas, with over 70 papers in peer-reviewed medical journals, including PLoS Genetics, the Journal of the American Society of Nephrology and Nature Genetics. Prof. O’Seaghdha is Chief Medical Officer at PatientMPower, a digital healthcare company providing technology solutions for patients with kidney disease. PatientMPower aims to improve outcomes by enabling patients to better manage their care and by providing healthcare providers and investigators with unique data insights to guide therapy and research. He was recently awarded Enterprise Ireland Clinical Innovation award for his work in this area.
